Clearance is handled at the local Zollamt using an Umzugsgut declaration, which — correctly filed and backed by proof of 12 months' prior residence in the US and onward residence in Germany — imports your personal effects free of duty and VAT. Our German partners prepare the ATLAS filing on your behalf and deal with any anmeldung or residency-evidence queries as they come up.
From the port, shipments run on the Autobahn network to a door address anywhere in the country. Berlin Altbau flats with five flights and no lift, Munich Innenstadt with timed delivery windows, a farmhouse outside Regensburg, or a base-town address near Ramstein. Germany follows EU customs regulations for importing personal effects under the Umzugsgut (relocation goods) relief — the German implementation of EU Transfer of Residence relief under Regulation 1186/2009.
